ome Folks Eat Vegetarian Food

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Lilliland was not only quite popular because of the Alpine Mountains that were so beautiful, and the Castle Lake that shimmered in the sun and moonlight, but also because of the large number of fine restaurants. The Grand Lilliland Hotel was an internationally favorite place to stay while visiting Lilliland.

A number of the citizens were vegetarians. That is, they did not eat meat. They preferred vegetables to anything else except fruit. Fresh apples, peaches, grapes, and other locally grown fruit, were also part of their diet.

The Baron knew that his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, was also a vegetarian. When the professor visited Lilliland Castle to stay with the Baron, there was always a fine selection of vegetables, fruits, nuts and berries for him at mealtime. The professor claimed that he could think more clearly on a vegetarian diet. He also added that since horses were vegetarians, they were both beautiful and strong and very healthy.

The baron tried the diet several times as did his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle. The both agreed that it seemed that eating carefully and lightly with a low amount of animal fats in the diet was the way of the future.

The main philosophy that the Baron tried to follow was that people should eat anything they wished to as long as it was fresh, clean and healthy. All restaurants gave the food that had not been served to the center where hungry people would be welcomed. No person visiting Lilliland should ever go hungry. Sometimes travelers would get stuck and run out of money, but they were always fed in Lilliland. Lilliland was very hospitable to everyone.
