uckoo Clock Makers of Lilliland

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Lilliland was a very popular vacation spot because it was nestled between the Alpine Mountains and the large Castle Lake. It had many fine old hotels and excellent restaurants that were very well known internationally.

Lilliland also had a large number of clock makers for a country of its small size. All of the clock makers seemed to make only one type of clock. It was the cuckoo clock. All the homes in Lilliland were filled with cuckoo clocks. Each home had at least one in every room.

The Baron often wondered why there weren't more of a variety of clocks in Lilliland. Why this love of cuckoo clocks? The Baron consulted with his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, to see if they could come up with a good reason why the cuckoo clock was so popular. They all thought about it for a long time and no one came up with a valid reason.

Shortly thereafter, the Baron had a consulting psychiatrist, Dr. Friend, come in from Germany to see if the people were all weird or mentally imbalanced. Dr. Friend studied the problem and assured the Baron that the people were as the citizens of any other country in Europe. The Baron seemed relieved but his question about the popularity of the cuckoo clocks still remained unanswered.

Finally, the answer came to him. It was very simple. It was because the people did not know about the different variety of clocks that were made throughout the world. The Baron imported some samples of other styles of clocks and when the citizens saw them they immediately liked them. Some were sold but in the end, the people of Lilliland still liked the sound of the cuckoo.
