amous Lilliland Smiles
|
ron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
As Lilliland was next to Switzerland, it also shared some of that country's social and political views. For example, Lilliland was a neutral country like Switzerland. They shared the Alpine Mountains and the love of skiing, as did the Swiss. Lilliland hotels were just as hospitable and the restaurant food was excellent, the same as the Swiss. Lilliland was the natural place to make the final destination for the tourists.
Baron Von Lodge had a board of businessmen in the tourist industry that would meet regularly to plan events and activities to keep Lilliland interesting and popular as a tourist location. Tourist money kept Lilliland's unemployment at next to zero. That meant that nearly everyone in Lilliland had a job.
The tourist board wanted the people to know and realize that happy tourists were the bread and butter of the economy. Being kind to tourists was what the citizens should do as a normal procedure, but being extra nice and smiling at tourists was very good for everyone's jobs.
Lilliland quickly became famous for its Lilliland smiles. Everyone smiled all of the time when it was appropriate. And everyone was very happy to give a tourist who had a question a helpful and courteous answer. Lilliland loved tourists and the hope was that the tourists loved Lilliland and would plan their next trip back to the beautiful mountains and lakes of the country. A vacation was planned for fun and relaxation and all of the people wanted to smile and help the visitors have a good time. Hospitality was what Lilliland was all about.
