lpine Glacier Incident
|
ometime ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Lilliland was located in a valley surrounded by the Alpine glaciers that added water to the very large Lilliland Lake. Sometimes the glacial runoff made the level of the lake rise higher but eventually it leveled off to a normal depth.
However, one spring season, when the glacier was beginning to create runoff, the lake level kept getting higher and higher. It was rising about six inches a day and that meant that in a month the lake’s water level would be fifteen or more feet higher. In two months, it would be thirty feet higher if the runoff continued.
This had the Baron and his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin deeply concerned and they immediately decided to call in a glacier expert. The expert examined the Alpine glacier very carefully with a team of specialists and they decided that there was no end to the runoff in sight. The lake would grow by thirty feet in two months, and forty-five feet in three months.
The Baron asked the experts for their recommendation. They said that the evacuation of Lilliland was the only safe solution. Lilliland Castle would be entirely flooded as well as Lady Angela’s Alpine Castle. The town would soon follow. “Pack up everything,” was the order of the day.
Plans were immediately launched to have everyone relocate. Hours before the evacuation order was to be given, a final sounding of the water’s depth was made. The depth indicator proved that the water was no longer rising but had leveled off. Now the question was, “Is this a temporary leveling, and will rising resume again soon, or is it a sign that the water level may start dropping?”
It was a miracle because during the next sounding, the water level began to drop. As time went by the water level dropped faster and faster.
The new calculation was that within a week the water level would be back to its normal position, just as before the avalanche and spring flooding.
The Baron was so grateful for the miracle that Lilliland had been saved; he recommended a month of prayer in thanks for saving his country. Not very much was destroyed by the high water and everyone was lucky to be saved.
