ree Sunday Concerts
|
ometime ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
The sport of skiing was very popular during the winter months. Ski lifts were provided and safely maintained for all to enjoy. The money from the sale of tickets for the ski lift was used to pay for the completion of the lifts and other activities. But since not everyone in Lilliland was an avid skier so some of the funds went for other activities that everyone could participate in and enjoy.
During the summer months, every Sunday afternoon, a free first class concert would be offered to everyone in Lilliland. The cost of the orchestra was met in part from the ski lift revenue. Other revenue was met by the summer boat rental on Lilliland Lake.
In this manner more enjoyment could be offered to everyone. It also added to a fine assortment of activities for all the tourists.
If the weather was undesirable for outdoor summer activities, then the concert was moved to the indoor auditorium.
The concert planners had a variety of musical activities planned. Sometimes they would have a musical play, a concert, light opera, individual recitals, or some other fine musical event.
Professional quality musicians and stage artists would be brought in from New York, London or Paris to ensure the high quality of a production. Many of the London stage productions offered traveling productions of the same show that was offered in the West-end theaters in London. New York’s traveling productions of Broadway plays were also on their European schedule. Shows currently on the Paris stage also had their traveling group appear in Lilliland. This way, there was something for everyone.
All of this was not be accident, nor was it a secondary consideration, but a very comfortable plan so that everyone had some form of entertainment all year long, either in good or bad weather.
The people liked the musicals very much since there was no room for disappointment.
The Baron liked to see many happy faces in the audience during and following each performance.
