ysterious Dead Sailors

ometime ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

One of the favorite activities in Lilliland was sailing on Lake Lilliland. But a mysterious death occurred occasionally with strange regularity. The Baron and Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, had investigated the strange deaths of sailors from time to time.

The latest deaths were three very experienced sailors on their sailboat on a normal day. The weather was calm and the lake was ideal for sailing. Yet the bodies of the three sailors were found on the boat with nothing to out of the ordinary.

This episode was the sixth time in six years that this had occurred. There was no evidence of violence on the scene and there had been no drinking on board. The bodies were untouched.

The Professor ordered experts to be called in to investigate the strange deaths.

Finally, the medical examiner found something interesting. It seemed that all of the bodies had high levels of carbon monoxide, enough to kill them. But the next question was where did the carbon monoxide come from?

There was no industry in the area. The only source was the powerboats that normally operate on the lake, but they were few in number. Another clue came from a weather expert who noted that sometimes, due to a vortex, the peculiar weather pattern would form stationary pockets. The weather pockets were small and sometimes were found to contain high concentrations of carbon monoxide. The pockets were found to be at the same location over the lake where all of the deaths had occurred.

A preliminary conclusion was reached and the area of the lake was marked off limits for all sailing because of the probability of the poisonous air that was the cause of death. Also, all powerboats were asked to avoid that area of the lake where the weather pockets were known to exist.

The results had been proven to be very accurate because no more unusual deaths had occurred, to everyone’s great relief.

The Baron and Professor were delighted with the prompt investigation of the medical examiner and the weather experts.

No matter if it is for skiing, hiking or sailing, ideal weather conditions always add to the enjoyment of the activity.
