ason and Felix
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
On the grounds around Lilliland Castle, there was an interesting relationship between a duck from the nearby Lilliland Lake and a horse that was permitted to roam freely.
The horse named Jason walked around with a duck named Felix riding on his back. They looked like they were getting along very well. Many people commented that it was indeed an unusual sight to behold. But they really acted like they were true friends.
How this unusual relationship came about was open to speculation, but a story persisted. It seemed that some unsupervised visiting children were throwing sticks at the duck. The duck was very annoyed and trapped by the children who had surrounded him.
Jason, the horse, saw what was going on and came over. Jason positioned himself between the duck and the children. Then he began to motion that the children should back away and not bother Felix. Felix wasted no time in jumping up on Jason’s back for safety and protection.
Since that day, the two animals, Jason and Felix, have been inseparable.
Lilliland citizens were taught early in life to respect all animals. Animals were kept as pets and no animals were allowed to be shot or hurt in any way. Perhaps the animals sensed this attitude of kindness that existed everywhere in Lilliland and they shared this with the other animals and were extra kind to each other.
A warm attitude to all of nature was a central theme of the Baron’s dedication in keeping Lilliland as a fine place to visit and live. Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, was a strong supporter of the Baron’s attitude of being kind to all living things. The rewards of this kindness came back again and again.
Lady Angela was very fond of Jason and Felix and often observed them on her castle grounds in the morning when she was having breakfast on the balcony.
