rofessor Hamblin’s Cotswold Wool Vest

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, would often vacation in England and visited Oxford and Cambridge Universities where he was a member of the faculty for many years before going to Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin remembered the very chilly winters in England, as well as in Lilliland, and did everything that he could to keep warm during the long winter nights.

One way of keeping warm was to wear a vest. The vest had to be made of Cotswold wool and tailor-made to fit perfectly. So, the Professor made several visits to a specialty shop when he was in that part of the country.

Every time that the Professor would wear the vest, the Baron and Lady Angela would make a comment as to whether he was extra warm or not.

The Professor’s standard reply was that if it kept the Cotswold sheep warm during the cold winter nights in the English countryside, it would be warm enough for him.

But, this time, during his visit to Cotswold, he brought along the exact measurements for the Baron and Lady Angela. He ordered a special vest for both of them so they could feel for themselves just how warm the vests were.

Upon his return to Lilliland from England, the Professor made no mention of the gifts that he had specially made for the Baron and Lady Angela. Instead, he would wait until it was a very cold night when he would present the vests to both of them.

Winter came early one year and Lilliland Castle was unusually cold. During a dinner, the Professor brought out the two gifts and had them put the vests on.

Both the Baron and Lady Angela were delighted and upon putting them on, they noticed how warm and comfortable they felt.

The Baron thanked the Professor very much for a very thoughtful and useful gift, as did Lady Angela.

They both said that the next time they saw the Professor wearing his vest that they would not kid him, because they would also wear their special Cotswold vests.

The long cold winter nights in Lilliland were cozier with the special woolen vests from Cotswold.
