huck Wagon Pete

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lilliland was a small enough country that everyone seemed to know what everyone else was up to. So when a chuck wagon pulled by a team of horses came to Lilliland, everyone seemed to notice.

The Baron asked Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, to enquire about how the wagon came to town.

The Professor found out that the chuck wagon belonged to a western cowboy ranger show that was traveling throughout Europe. But, an unfortunate incident occurred. The promoter of the western show skipped out on the actors. The entire company of cowboys was left stranded. Everyone was left on their own to fend for themselves.

Chuck wagon Pete decided to head south toward Switzerland and that is how he ended up in Lilliland. To support himself, he served western type food along the way to tourists who never tasted real western food. His barbeque ribs, open range beans, and authentic corn bread were very appealing to the tourists.

But, when his supplies for the chuck wagon became low, he decided that he would have to find a place, for a while, to build up his earnings for the long trip back to Texas.

With permission, he was able to set up a location in Lilliland where people could enjoy his western food while eating at picnic tables in a nearby park.

But that was all outdoors and when winter arrived, Pete felt that people would not be interested in eating in a snowdrift. Therefore, he had better make plans for the changing weather.

A person who owned a restaurant building in Lilliland said that the building had not been used since the restaurant closed. He asked Pete if he would like to go into a partnership with him. He would provide the restaurant and furnishings and Pete would be in charge of the food preparation. Pete’s chuck wagon would be moved inside and everything would be arranged to make Pete feel comfortable in his new indoor surroundings.

After a few months of successful business, Pete began to train his Lilliland employees in the art of western cooking. They all wore cowboy hats, blue jeans, red bandanas, and learned to speak with a cowboy’s western drawl.

Then Pete decided to use the money that he earned to return to Texas to visit his family and friends. Pete liked Lilliland so much that he returned again and again.
