ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron had a close university friend visit him. He was a diplomat from another country and as with all diplomats, he had to be handled with special care so that his visit would be successful.

The Baron asked Lady Angela, his fiancée, to see if she would have a friend escort the diplomat to various functions around Lilliland.

Lady Angela asked her friend, Sheila, to be the diplomat’s escort for the activities. Sheila was a very calm, attractive, bright person who would do a fine job for Lilliland.

Since the diplomat, Arthur Moore, liked sports, they decided to play some golf. But Diplomat Moore kept asking for “gimmies” if his gold ball was ten feet away from the hole. That was too much too far a distance and he should be required to putt out the hole. But Sheila said that it was a “gimmie.”

Next, they decided to go horseback riding. Sheila was a very good rider and Arthur thought he was also. Except he kept forgetting to hold onto the reigns and then he kept falling off the horse. Roger was one of the calmest, easiest to ride horses in the entire Lilliland stables. Sheila decided to stop before Arthur really hurt himself from all the falls.

Next day, they tried tennis, but Arthur kept saying that his shot was in-bounds when it was so far out of bounds that it was nearly in the stands. Sheila decided that if they played tennis again, she would have all the tennis court marker lines removed completely.

Sailing was just as bad. Arthur would stand up when the small sailboat was turning and he kept falling out of the boat.

Sheila asked that Lady Angela make a very diplomatic excuse not to play or escort Arthur anymore before he hurt himself and blamed her.

Lady Angela thanked Sheila for her time and decided to turn Arthur back over to the care of the Baron. The Baron solved the problem by taking Arthur on many harmless outdoor picnics for the rest of his visit.
