illiland Hospitality

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Lilliland was not always the warm friendly country that it is today. Years earlier when the citizens were mostly farmers and dairymen, the visitors and vacationers were treated as though they were in the way and somewhat of a nuisance since they were always asking directions and just sat around looking at the beautiful Alpine Mountains and surrounding scenery.

Then, for several reasons, the farmers and dairymen had very bad luck and their crops were very small and the harvest was very bleak. The economy, for many of the citizens of Lilliland, was in trouble. The Baron called his royal advisors together to address the problem. One of the advisors, who had access to the entire financial structure of Lilliland, noted that each year the tourist business produced more income for all the people in restaurants, hotels, skiing and hiking-related businesses. The Baron decided to encourage the building of a few more hotels to accommodate the visitors, and ski lifts that would take the visitors and citizens to the best skiing runs in a very short time. As it was, the skiers would spend more time walking up the mountain than skiing down the mountain. With the new ski lifts, it would only take a few minutes to take the skiers to the top of the mountain.

The next season more and more people came to vacation in Lilliland. The citizens began to treat the visitors with care and kindness and made sure that they had a good time so they would tell their friends and they would visit Lilliland.

Everyone learned that treating tourists with kindness is practicing the golden rule and very, very good for business.
