he Bells of Lilliland

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Since Lilliland was located in the Alpine Mountains, everyone enjoyed all the various activities and sports that included skiing, mountain climbing, and camping, and everything else.

While the Alpine Mountains, laced with fresh snow, were a wondrous sight to behold, there was always the possibility of too much of a good thing. Avalanches did occur and everyone was warned, when possible, by ringing the bells of Lilliland. The bells also tolled the hours of the day and any emergency events that needed the attention of the rescue crew.

The bells were so loud and harsh that the Baron wondered if the loudness could cause an avalanche, with too much snow rushing down the Alpine Mountains. The Baron decided to summon his royal advisors to ask them that question: "Could the loudness of the bells cause an avalanche?" The royal advisors asked permission to call in a specialist on avalanches from neighboring Switzerland. The specialist came to Lilliland to test the sound of the bells and it was decided that the sound level was too harsh and that more mellow-sounding bells would be appropriate. The insides of the bells would have to be replaced to obtain the softer mellower sound. Everyone could still hear the bells from afar but the ringing would not cause an avalanche.

Everyone in Lilliland liked the new sound and tone of the bells and felt more secure that they would not cause an avalanche.
