ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Many of the dignitaries that visited the Baron during the year would stay in one of the many guestrooms in the official part of Lilliland Castle. The guestrooms were very much alike so as not to create the impression that some guests received special attention by having a more elaborate room.
But, among the castle staff who took care of the rooms for the guests, one of the rooms had the nickname of the “Lullaby Room.” There was no children’s furniture in the room, just a regular typical guestroom for adults.
The reason that this one room had the nickname was that each of the guests who stayed in the room reported that they had an excellent night’s sleep.
When the Baron learned of the room’s special nickname, he asked why people might sleep better in a certain room in the castle? The castle was old and drafty with lots of antique furniture. The only thing unique about the Lullaby Room was the extra large four-poster bed it had.
The Baron decided to spend the night in the room and he reported that he slept very soundly but there was nothing special about the evening.
Professor Hamblin did the same thing one night and reported a good night’s sleep with nothing extra or special occurring.
Lady Angela decided to sleep in the Lullaby Room as well, and reported nothing exceptional.
Finally, quite by accident, when the Baron’s nanny, now retired, came for an overnight visit, she stayed in the Lullaby Room. She was asked how well had she slept and she reported quite well. She also added that the castle’s draft came in the room under the door and caused the four-poster bed to creek. The creeking had a rhyme or pattern to it. It was somewhat like music and reminded her of the tune of a lullaby that she would sing to the Baron when he was a young child.
Other nannies would sing the same popular lullaby to the children under their care to help them go to sleep.
The Professor concluded that the reason why the Lullaby Room got that nickname was because the natural creeking of the old four-poster bed would remind the guests of their childhood lullabies.
