hostly Green Candle
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
As large as Lilliland Castle was, the Baron took great pride in having it run smoothly. Everything was in its place and functioning properly. The Baron’s father always said to keep everything “ship-shape.” The Baron, with the help of his chief advisor, kept things running properly.
The castle staff was very conscientious in their duties and seemed to enjoy their work. However, the staff was beginning to whisper about the strange green candle in the hallway next to the dining room.
The green candle sat in the middle of a wall table with a sign on it saying, “Please do not touch or light. C. K.” But sometimes the candle was lit and no one said they lit the candle. And who was C. K. anyway?
It wasn’t long until the Baron was concerned about the green candle that seemed to be lit by a ghost since no one came forward to say they lit the candle. The person who was in charge of the castle’s candles said he never lit it; he just obeyed the sign and did not touch it.
Frustrated, the Baron called in Professor Hamblin and Lady Angela to get their suggestions about the mysterious candle and who was C. K.
They noted that the candle, when lit, gave off a soft woodsy, yet unusual fragrance. It was pleasant but not overwhelming. Finally, out of frustration, the Baron ordered the person in charge of the castle’s candles to remove it and throw it away. He hoped that this would solve the problem. And it did, for a short period of time. Then it reappeared with a note from C. K. saying “Please do not touch the candle.”
Lady Angela remembered that a man she recently employed named Clarence Kline was in charge of keeping Alpine Castle, her home, free of bugs, insects and rodents. The scent of the candle did just that. She asked Clarence to put a candle in Lilliland Castle at the same time he renewed her candle which was usually every other month. The problem was solved about the green candle that kept both castles very nice.
