ederhosen

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron’s fiancée was Lady Angela. Lady Angela’s guest was her cousin, Lady Foxworth whose nickname was Foxy. Foxy was visiting Lady Angela during the mourning period following the death of her husband, Lord George Foxworth, who was killed in a skiing accident the previous year.

Since Foxy was a very successful fashion designer from Paris, she was asked to design fashions for the people of Lilliland. First she designed clothes for women who participated in winter outdoor sports. Then she added summer clothes for women who enjoyed summer hiking and sailing.

The men were next to have clothing made that was comfortable and good for the outdoor life. Foxy suggested that the men wear Lederhosen like the men in Switzerland wear. Lederhosen are short leather pants that defy the harsh elements of the mountains and last forever. To Foxy’s dismay, the men of Lilliland expressed no interest in the leather pants. Foxy went to Lady Angela with tears in her eyes over the rejection of the Lederhosen for the gallant men of Lilliland.

Lady Angela talked about this rejection with the Baron.

Twenty of the Lilliland men, in protest, actually wore Lederhosen and stood outside Lady Foxy’s home and sang songs of the mountains. To everyone’s surprise, they were quite good. The Baron liked the group so much that he invited them to sing at different Lilliland events, wearing their Lederhosen, which they now liked. The Baron wore Lederhosen around the castle and in the mountains to demonstrate the acceptance of the leather pants.

Professor Hamblin mentioned that the men of Scotland wore kilts, cowboys wore chaps, priests and judges wore robes, and therefore, Lederhosen should also be worn at times in Lilliland.

Foxy and Lady Angela were happy and the fashions of Lilliland were widely copied throughout Europe.
