orse Racing

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

One of the great joys in Lilliland is to own a horse. Everyone likes horseback riding. Many times when the citizens meet each other on horseback, they want to race no matter where in Lilliland they are.

Everyone was sure that his horse was the fastest horse in the land. They all seem to want to race every day to prove that point.

Unfortunately, one day while a mother was taking her infant for a stroll in the baby carriage, two people on horseback went racing past, not seeing the mother and infant. Both of them were thrown to the ground and shaken up a bit but not seriously hurt.

The Baron quickly heard of this incident and decided to do something about it immediately. The Baron's first duty is to the safety and well being of the citizens. This was going to be a difficult task for everyone seemed to think it was great sport to horserace in the crowded streets of Lilliland.

After meeting with his advisors, the Baron said that all future horseracing would be on the racetrack that he would have built in a quiet area of the castle grounds where it would be away from children playing and where people would not come.

The project seemed to work for the citizens who wanted to challenge each other on horseback, who would meet at the circular one-half mile track and race as long as they wished.

Everyone in Lilliland was happy again and the streets were much safer.
