aron’s Blue Blazer
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Baron often discussed with his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the proper attire of the monarchy. “We are just too stuffy,” he would say. “The uniforms, formal tuxedos, top hats, military attire is just too formal. We are not a military state and we have a neutral policy, so why should we look so formal all the time?”
Lady Angela agreed and decided to help the Baron review the proper attire for the monarchy.
They both decided on a plain blue blazer with the Lilliland crest on the breast pocket. Gray pants and dark shoes. A light blue button-down shirt with a conservative tie. That was really all that was needed for everyday activities. For more formal occasions, then a dark gray suit would be fine.
The castle guards and security should not have policy-type uniforms, but more of the same attire as the Baron.
“Well,” Lady Angela added, “If that takes care of the men, what about the women and their long skirts? What about pants for the women? A pair of pants with a jacket would also be acceptable. Women need pants for not only horseback riding and farm work, but also for those cold snowy days, and what about skiing? You certainly would never consider w woman dressed to ski in a skirt. Women can wear pants at any event they wish and still feel appropriately dressed.
“It may take a long time for people to get used to these new styles we will be wearing. Yes, but it will give us more freedom of movement to get around. Those high stiff starchy collars that were found in men’s formal attire had to be very uncomfortable. It is very important to look smart but it is also important not to cut off one’s circulation by wearing such stiff clothing.”
“Good,” said the Baron. “Good,” said Lady Angela. “Clothing should make you feel good.”
And they both laughed and that was that!
