eep Sea Divers
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Baron looked out of his castle window one evening and saw a strange light on Castle Lake some distance away. When he inquired about the sight, he was informed that a private yacht was on fire and sinking in the middle of the lake. No one was hurt.
The following day a deep sea diver went down into the lake to locate the wreckage of the yacht. There was a box of valuable jewelry on board when it sank. The deep-sea diver did not come up and there was great fear that he drowned. Two days later, a second diver was sent down to locate the first diver and the box of jewelry. But he also failed to come back up and there was fear that he also had drowned.
Then, a week later, the insurance company that hired the first two divers hired a third diver to go down to see what had happened to the previous divers. He was a very careful and experienced diver using the very best equipment with a safety rope. But he also failed to come back and was also feared to have drowned.
When the Baron heard about all three of the divers not returning, he said enough was enough.
The Baron said that they should give up on the diving plan. The insurance company should pay the claim and not send any more divers down to their possible death.
Years later, it was discovered that there was a mysterious vortex in the bottom of the lake that caused a severe suction and pulled everything down into it that was close to its opening.
The Baron was very wise in not letting anyone dive in that unsafe area again.
