ometime ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

A constant complaint heard by the Baron and his chief advisor was that beer was served year round, but when it came to non-alcoholic birch beer, it was only served part of the year. Birch beer was available only during the summer months.

When a non-alcoholic birch beer drinker wanted to drink along with his beer-drinking friends, and it was in the winter months, he was denied a drink. The beverage company that produced birch beer would close for the winter, but the beer production company kept going twelve months a year.

While the complaint had been going around for many years, the Baron and Professor said that time had come when something was going to be done. The Baron came up with the regulation and law that any establishment that served and sold beer must also serve and sell birch beer. That should spread equality among the beer and birch beer folks.

Aside from the fact that more jobs would be created because the birch beer works would produce just as long as the beer works, more jobs were always good for the economy of Lilliland.

Socially it meant that there would be no further exclusion of birch beer drinkers during some months of the year.

Professor Hamblin mentioned to the Baron that there were some people who had a problem with alcoholism and they wanted to socialize with their friends at taverns without feeling ostracized in any way.

Drinking a beer with friends was always a social activity with wide acceptance and now the beer drinker could easily accept birch beer in place of beer.

The Professor added, “When friends would come to visit, if one of the members of the group was alcoholic, I would offer everyone coffee or tea, but not beer. If one of the group asked for beer, I would say, ‘Sorry, we are all out of beer.’” Now the Professor was able to offer a beer or birch beer to the group equally and not be afraid of offending anyone’s desire to control his drinking in any manner.

Lady Angela liked the whole idea very much for serving at her afternoon social events.

The quality of the Lilliland beer is excellent as is the excellent taste of Lilliland’s birch beer.
