andering Rich Man

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron had his university roommate’s friend visiting him, Rod Stewart. He was well educated and independently very rich. One thing he liked to do since his university days was to travel. Since he had no itinerary, it looked like he just wandered from place to place, never staying more than one week.

The Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, asked Rod why he did not find an attractive lady and settle down. Rod said that he did several times and as the relationship developed, and she found out about his enormous wealth, the pace of the relationship picked up. Rod would then ask himself if his intended was more interested in his money than in himself. When the answer came up, it made Rod reconsider and he gracefully departed. He would usually say that he had to go visit a sick uncle back in England and needed to leave promptly. It was to be only for a few weeks, but then when he got away from her, and back in England, Rod would send her a letter saying that he may have to stay longer than expected, and for the good of all concerned, he would have to break off their engagement.

The Baron was discussing this with Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, along with Rod. The Professor said, “It takes all kinds to make up the world and some people like staying a permanent bachelor. Once they realize that, they should accept it and not have anyone try to force them into a relationship that would make them uncomfortable. Not everyone is supposed to find a mate and get married. Some people want to live their lives as a single person.”

Rod said, “It is probably why I began my wandering life-style. When a casual friendly relationship began to become too close, I would get very concerned and think of some good reason why I must leave the relationship and the place it all started and continue to wander alone.
