aunted House?

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, was sharing a tale with the Baron about a haunted house.

It seemed that a house used only during the height of the skiing season by some wealthy owners left the place unoccupied during the summer months. Since the house was not live in, it was hard to explain the strange noises that came from inside the house at night from time to time. Then rumors began to emerge that the house was haunted by ghosts. To some, that would explain the ghostlike sounds coming from the house several times a week.

When the owners of the house found out about the rumors, they found a ghost detective and sent him to investigate the situation. The detective knew that the only people who came into the house during the time the owners were away was a two-person cleaning crew. But even they quit for fear of confronting the rumored ghosts. The back door of the house was always left slightly open for the cleaning crew but it was common to find the back door wide open on occasion. The ghost may not be a permanent resident, but it would come in the back door when visiting.

The ghost detective decided to move into the haunted house and confront any ghost directly. The first night he was there, nothing happened and there was nothing to report. The second night nothing happened as well and there was nothing to report again.

But the third night, the ghost detective heard an unusual noise and began his investigation.

What he found solved the problem of the ghost. The ghost was not a ghost but a neighbor’s nanny goat that wandered in the open back door at night and made “Naa, naa, naa” sounds, but to outsiders, it sounded like “Boo, boo, boo.” The nanny goat was carefully led outside and from then on the back door was kept tightly closed at all times. The nanny goat would just have to find another place to wander into at night.

Needless to say, the owners were pleased with the outcome and the ghost detective had solved the mystery of the haunted house.

Lady Angela concluded by saying that she really did not believe in ghosts but had heard some strange noises in Alpine Castle from time to time.
