irty Dishes

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron, his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, and his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, often talked about the good health of the citizens of Lilliland.

The good health of the people of Lilliland was due to the Department of Health that supervised the cleanliness of restaurants and hotels. Proper sanitation was a fundamental objective of the health department.

While the health department was not very large, there was one investigator named Brian Smith who seemed quite zealous in his fight against germs. It seemed that Inspector Smith was proposing that he be allowed to go house-to-house inspecting for dirty dishes in the sinks of private families. He also wanted to make sure that the dish washing water was hot enough to kill the germs and that the proper soap was used.

When the Professor heard of the proposal of going house-to-house, he said that the plan was going to fail. Peoples’ homes were a very private sanctuary and were not to be entered without due cause and only with the permission of the owner.

The Baron was advised of the proposal and said that Professor Hamblin was to have the last word on the subject of dirty dishes in the kitchen sinks of Lilliland’s homes.

If an epidemic broke out, then all sanitation efforts would be in full effect, but in the meantime, all private homes are private.

There had been situations where construction workers accidentally broke water lines and the message went out to boil all drinking water until the water was again safe to drink without boiling. But that was an entirely different matter.

The health department was very wise to tell the public that one of the safest and easiest methods of preventing the spread of illness was to have people was their hands routinely.

However, restaurants and hotels were to be carefully supervised by the health inspector so that no one of the patrons became ill.

The Baron concluded that he wanted every guest and visitor in Lilliland to return home very healthy and happy.
