illiland is a Neutral Country

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Storm clouds with the threat of war had been surrounding all of the countries in Europe. Switzerland and Lilliland were both neutral countries. They did not participate in war. Historically, in Lilliland, warring was not the proper way for people to solve problems among themselves, or between countries. Just as neighbors should not fight to prove a point, countries should not fight to prove a point or boundary line, or anything else.

Many philosophers felt that mankind was to live in peace and harmony with nature. The closer man lives within the natural order of things, the more he would enjoy life.

Other philosophers take just the opposite view and feel that man is basically aggressive and loves to make war. Since the beginning of recorded history, war has always existed and will continue to exist.

Most people feel that mankind is peaceful by nature and cannot see why history is composed of one war after another. The only way to stop war is to follow the golden rule of doing unto others, as you would like them to do unto you.

The loss of life in most wars is young men who just left home for the first time, under 20 years of age, and seeking adventure. The wise old men are ignored in the excitement of war. Eventually everyone realizes, when it is too late, that the advice of the elderly is the voice of experience and wisdom. That wisdom tells us that several years after the end of the war, everyone has forgotten the reason for it, and the young people who died not have a chance to live a full and rewarding life. Unfortunately, wisdom comes too late for most of us.
