rofessor Hamblin’s Unexpected Visitor
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
A stranger came to Lilliland and knocked on Lady Angela’s Alpine Castle door. He was asked his business and he said that he was looking for Professor Hamblin. Lady Angela heard about the visitor and invited him in for a brief visit.
His name was Philip Andover from Oxford University. He said that he was a student of Professor Hamblin’s many years ago and wanted to share some of his writings with the Professor firsthand and obtain the Professor’s thoughts on the subject matter.
Philip showed several papers to Lady Angela, including a term paper that the Professor had graded in his own handwriting, which Lady Angela recognized.
Lady Angela sent word to locate the Professor and have him join them for lunch at Alpine Castle. While the discussion was light and there was a remembrance of the days at Oxford University in England.
Later the Professor and Philip went to the library at Lilliland Castle to meet the Baron and discuss the topic that was the purpose for the visit.
The topic was the future of the monarchy form of government in the next century.
Philip’s point of view was that the monarchy, once very absolute and powerful, would shrink to that of a figurehead form of government with the true power and leadership elected by the majority of citizens. This was due in part because many rulers governed all for themselves and left literally nothing for the majority of the people. The people would take just so much before they rebelled against the monarchy.
Professor Hamblin thought about Philip’s comments and said that it seemed to be coming true throughout Europe.
Professor Hamblin believed that all citizens should learn to read, write, do mathematics, understand economics and government, and should be encouraged to take a greater part in decision-making for their futures. The new generations would then follow their example. Education for all is the solution.
