olf and Boat Trip Planned

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The vacation time that the Baron and Lady Angela were planning was going to be a bit unusual. The both liked golfing and decided to begin their vacation at St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland, where golf had its very beginnings. They both liked outdoor sports and the challenges they offered. Since they were just getting started learning the game of golf, their scores had been kept a secret. But, for beginners, they were not at all bad.

After the visit to Scotland, they planned to take an ocean voyage to the United States to visit friends in New York. The Star Line had a new cruise liner and was announcing trips on its maiden voyage. The ship was called the Titanic. The Baron and Lady Angela had tickets for the trip.

The golfing trip was very enjoyable, and the next step was the ocean trip. The Titanic sailed out of the London area on schedule and hoped to attain a new speed record for a quick Atlantic crossing. But, it was tragically learned that the Titanic had hit a large iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank. There were some survivors.

The officials in Lilliland began to search the passenger list for the names of the survivors. They could not find the Baron’s name or Lady Angela’s name on the list of survivors. Gloom and doom were beginning to manifest in Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin began to make inquiries about what had happened to the Baron and Lady Angela. The cruise line people were of little help in finding their names.

A few days later, the cruise line people contacted the Professor and said that the Baron’s name was not on the survivors list, nor on the list of the passengers presumed drowned. In fact, they were not even sure that the Baron was ever on the ship.

To the great relief of everyone in Lilliland, there was a telegram from the Baron saying that they loved their golf vacation so much that they decided at the last minute to postpone their Titanic trip for another time. When they had heard of the tragedy, they immediately notified Professor Hamblin to ensure everyone that both he and Lady Angela were fine and still playing golf in Scotland.
