eeting in London’s Big Ben Park

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron’s fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, received a request from a former university classmate about meeting her in London. The meeting would take place during the following week when Lady Angela would be in London on a shopping trip.

The message was from Lady Sarah and the place in the park by the clock Big Ben was a favorite spot to meet when they were both students.

Lady Angela was at the proper post in the park and awaited Lady Sarah, but she did not show up for the meeting. Instead, Lady Sarah sent a message with a friend to Lady Angela.

The note said that Lady Sarah could not attend the meeting because she was eloping with her fiancé, a handsome racecar driver named Richard Kingford. The note went on to say that she would be in Lilliland next week and would like to meet with her then.

Following her shopping trip, Lady Angela returned to Lilliland. The next week a note from Lady Sarah said that she would be arriving in Lilliland in two days. But there was no mention of her new husband, Richard Kingford.

The Baron noticed in the newspaper that a racecar driver was fatally killed in a race in Italy just two days ago. The name of the driver was Richard Kingford.

This was very sad news for Lady Angela. The Baron went on to read the newspaper article that talked about Kingford’s racecar driving record. It said that he owned and raced his own car and had been on the racing circuit for four years. “But,” the article said, “he never won a race in all the twenty races that he entered. In fact, he had accidents in five of the twenty races.” The Baron said that this was not a very safe record for any racecar driver.

When Lady Sarah arrived in Lilliland to stay with Lady Angela, she was dressed all in black, mourning the death of her husband.

Lady Sarah wished that Kingford had chosen a different type of sport instead of one that he was not as good at, as he should have been.

Lady Sarah admitted that she had only known Kingford only three months before they decided to elope. “I wish that I knew more,” she added.
