xford or Cambridge?

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron’s chief advisor was Professor Hamblin. Professor Hamblin was a retired teacher from the British University system.

When the Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, would be introducing the Professor, they would say that he was a retired professor from Oxford University, and sometimes they would say that he was a retired professor from Cambridge University.

This could be embarrassing if the information was not correct or accurate.

So both the Baron and Lady Angela asked the Professor which one was correct, Oxford or Cambridge?

Professor Hamblin said that both were correct because he had spent almost eight years at both universities. It was not uncommon for professors to be on the faculty of different institutions during their teaching career. Sometimes certain universities have better libraries than others devoted to a specific field or topic.

“Well then, which would you prefer we use when introducing you?” they asked.

“Either university is fine, or just say both. The field of my expertise is the more important question. That can be answered that it is political science. I also have strong interests in natural beauty and nature, as well as art and architecture. But when being introduced, I personally like my background to be slightly understated. You, the Baron, and you, Lady Angela, are the bright stars of Lilliland. I am here just to help where and when I can.”

“And you shall always be there, as far as I am concerned,” said the Baron. “Lilliland survives and flourishes because of your wisdom, Professor Hamblin. Please don’t forget for one moment how very important your position is here in Lilliland.”

Lady Angela heartily agreed with the Baron’s views of the importance of Professor Hamblin in keeping everything running on a smooth course for all these years.

The careful plans for the future were in place so that whatever might come on the European horizon, Lilliland would be prepared to keep going smoothly.

Both the Baron and Lady Angela put their arms around the Professor and gave him a warm hug and said thank you very much.
