lpine Mountain Pond Mystery
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
The beautiful snowcapped Alpine Mountains surrounded Lilliland. People loved to go hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. They were always encouraged to follow the mountain trails shown on the various maps provided. Should they need help, the map always provided the nearest place to go to seek help and protection.
As accurate as the Alpine Mountains maps were, there were still some places that were not recorded on the maps.
One such unmapped place was a pond near the top of the mountain that had a mystery about it. Rumor persisted that a pirate’s treasure was hidden at the bottom of the pond. The pond was inaccessible much of the time because of the heavy snowfall at the top of the mountain, and the very cold glacier water that fed the pond, which added to the incompatibility for any human explorers.
The tale further said that the treasure was gold bricks that had been painted a dark gray color to resemble the other rocks at the bottom of the pond. The pond was reported to be very deep, making it inaccessible except by deep-sea divers.
All of this was only a rumor. There was not one solid piece of evidence that the pond existed. Its location was not precise. The area was frozen most of the year.
When the subject of the mystery pond came up during a meeting between the Baron and his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, they seemed to come to the same conclusion. The Professor indicated that the evidence was not solid and was surely just a myth.
The risk to climbers and explorers might be too hazardous to venture forth on what might be a wild goose chase.
The Baron decided to let everything be until more evidence was brought forward.
“Let it just be part of the Alpine Mountains folklore for visitors to talk about. Pirates were very clever by spreading false stories so as to misdirect treasure hunters from their buried treasures.”
This might well have been the case.
