us and Pepe

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
In the center of Lilliland was a popular park where the citizens liked to stroll on weekends. Sometimes an organ grinder and his monkey could be seen playing music.
The name of the monkey was Pepe and the organ grinder was Gus. They used to travel with a circus but as of late, they had been spending more time in Lilliland. They were especially popular with the children who visited the park.
If someone put a coin in Pepe’s tin cup, he would tip his small hat and smile as if to say “Thank you.” Gus would always be playing the music during the donation. This was the typical activity of Pepe and Gus. They worked as a team and they seemed to be doing it very well. They communicated well and seemed to like each other very much.
One day, everything seemed to come to an abrupt stop. Gus kept turning the wheel of the organ box, but Pepe did not respond. Pepe just sat very still and looked directly at Gus.
Gus tried to encourage Pepe to dance around and collect the coins, but he did not move. Gus was stumped. The Pepe began to motion toward to music box. Pepe moved over the box and climbed on top of it. Pepe grabbed the music box handle and began to crank it. The music started as Pepe turned the handle. Then Pepe stopped and pointed to Gus and the little tin cup. It seemed that he was motioning Gus to pick up the cup and start collecting the coins from the children who were standing there in amazement as to what was going on.
Pepe was now the organ grinder and Gus was the part of the act that collected the coins.
Then, after a while, Pepe stopped grinding the music box and motioned to Gus to come over and resume his grinding. Then Pepe picked up the cup and began collecting the coins as usual.
When the Baron and Professor Hamblin heard of this, they thought it very unusual. Professor Hamblin said that maybe Pepe wanted Gus to learn how it felt to have his job and vice versa. The boss and employee exchanged jobs for a short time to see how the other person felt.
