r. Whiskers, Family Cat

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, inherited a cat named Mr. Whiskers. He was supposed to be there just a short time while the cat’s owner was away in the hospital. The hospital stay was extended and the owner asked Lady Angela to find a new permanent home for Mr. Whiskers.

Mr. Whiskers had other ideas because he began to act like Alpine Castle was his new home. He quickly made himself right at home and Lady Angela did not seem to mind. After a while, slept in Lady Angela’s master bedroom near the fireplace. Mr. Whiskers would follow Lady Angela all around the castle as if he was second in command.

When Cousin Kelly from America came to visit Lady Angela, Mr. Whiskers began to treat her just like a member of the royal family. Mr. Whiskers would sit by the window when Lady Angela left the castle and eagerly awaited her return.

Mr. Whiskers was not like any other cat that would be content to be out in the stables chasing mice, because he had other ideas of entertainment.

Mr. Whiskers found a small red ball that he could hold in his mouth while making a strange loud purring noise. Then he would find out where Lady Angela was and go over to her with the ball. She would be encouraged to play catch and fetch with the ball. She would throw the ball and Mr. Whiskers would run after it and bring it back again for another toss.

Lady Angela was pleased with this activity because she did not want Mr. Whiskers to lay around the castle all day long and not get any proper exercise.

When friends would call on Lady Angela, Mr. Whiskers would not hide until they had gone, but would come out and greet them and sort of size them up as to whether they liked him or not. When the guests talked to Mr. Whiskers, he would look right back at them as if he really understood what they were saying. Then, he might mutter something back in cat language. We can only hope that it was something polite and diplomatic in cat language appropriate for someone in his station at the royal castle.

The chef at the castle had a problem at first because Mr. Whiskers could not eat typical cat food but wanted to eat the same food that Lady Angela enjoyed, except cut in very small delicate pieces. But that was fine, and everyone was very happy.
