ead by Fine Example

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
One of the Baron’s favorite ancestors was his great, great grandfather, Baron Edward Von Lodge. He led Lilliland through some historically difficult times. While other countries about the same size as Lilliland were dissolving, he kept his country going on.
The Baron’s motto was, “Lead by fine example.” Back in those early years, some countries led by terror. The leaders would control the citizens with threats of harsh treatment if they disobeyed the leader’s directives.
To those dictators who learned about the Baron’s motto of leading, it was as far a-field from their own style of leadership as one could get.
Baron Edward made sure that all of the Lilliland citizens were properly fed at all times and had a warm house in which to live. Lilliland had no army to regulate, so all of their efforts could be directed to the common people to enjoy life as much as possible. He set up a program of free medical services for the people to keep them healthy. Older citizens were given the option of staying in their own homes or moving into a hotel for special services that they might require.
Baron Edward did not want the members of the Royal family to parade around in riches in front of everyone. Their attire was expected to be fashionable, yet conservative. They were expected to give of their time to charities and events that helped the less fortunate.
Baron Edward was well ahead of his time when he asked everyone to help create jobs for everyone who needed a job. He saw the coming machine age as a chance for creating new skills and jobs and not replacing workers with mechanical devices.
For these and many other reasons, the Baron liked to pattern his leadership in the same mold of his great, great grandfather so many years ago.
Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, couldn’t agree with him more.
Lady Angela often commented on how appreciative the citizens of Lilliland were to have such a thoughtful leader.
