ilver Bird's Special Flight

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Baron Von Lodge and Lady Angela had many fine years together in Lilliland. They were looking forward to December 28th when they would be celebrating the 15 years of their many adventures together. The Baron had been very busy writing the history of Lilliland and the Lodge family heritage.

November 11th marked a special day for it was the end of the First World War and every year the Baron would fly the Silver Bird Spad 13 airplane around Lilliland for 50 minutes.

Today was just such a day; it was November 11, 1933, and the Baron waved farewell to everyone on his annual flight around the clear blue skies over Lilliland and up into the Alpine Mountains.

The Silver Bird never looked so bright with a new coat of silver paint. This year the plane was fitted with an automatic camera that the Baron could use while taking his scenic flight. There would be pictures of Castle Lake, Alpine Castle and Lilliland Castle, as well as the skiers going down the mountain.

The Silver Bird had 50 minutes of fuel in its tanks and when the 50 minutes were up everyone expected the Baron to come in for a landing at the small Lilliland Airfield. When it became 60 minutes after the Baron left, and everyone knew that there was not enough fuel for the Baron to stay in the air any longer, everyone thought that something unfortunate happened to the Baron and the Silver Bird airplane. The plane had engine trouble and the Baron had to land on the mountain. He was safe and the plane was unscratched. The Baron said that the pictures he had taken of the Lilliland areas were great.

Everyone in Lilliland was happy for the Baron.
