illiland Dance-a-thon

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lilliland had interesting events all year long. No matter what time of year it was, there was always something interesting to do. Sometimes it was a little out of the ordinary.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, liked to take part in thinking up all sorts of new activities that everyone could participate in and enjoy.

Lady Angela asked the Baron if they might try a dance contest. Partners would keep dancing until there was only one couple left on the dance floor.

The Baron said that this contest might go on for several days, and what about the orchestra? An orchestra just could not continue to play day after day. Lady Angela said, “We can simply have four small, but ample, orchestras or dance bands that play for six hours at a time.” The next question was about the prize. Lady Angela said, “It could be a week for the winning couple in the Lilliland Hotel in deluxe accommodations with all meals included and even breakfast in bed to recuperate.” They would also receive a cash gift of some value from Lady Angela herself.

The couples should be relatively good dancers to begin with so that the event did not look like the contestants couldn’t really dance well together.

The Lilliland Hotel was glad to be a sponsor and provided the dance floor and grand prize of a deluxe stay.

The proceeds from the dance contest would go to the hospital fund. Lady Angela said that she and the Baron would be in the contest for the first few dance numbers but it would not look right if they won the contest. Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, said that he would also be in the contest, but only to get things started.

It was agreed that the dance music would not be too fast and not too slow. It was agreed that fast numbers would wear the contestants out too soon and the very slow numbers would put the contestants to sleep in the middle of the dance floor.

There were many eager couples that signed up and the dance-a-ton contest began as planned. It was a huge success.

It turned out that the winners were Lilliland’s best mountain climbing team. Lady Angela concluded that being a good mountain climber might make a dancer with great stamina. It was a big success for everyone.
