ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
The Baron wondered why one of the colts in the horse stables kept following one of the grooms around the yard.
The groom mentioned that the mother was having the foal very late at night when she bumped her head on the side of the stable wall and knocked herself out. She was unconscious and could not move. As the foal was being born into the world, the groom, who could not get the vet to the stables in time, had to deliver the foal all by himself.
The first scent that the new foal smelled was that of the groom and not the mother. The mare regained consciousness and began to look after the foal but already imprinted into the foal’s brain was the scent of the groom.
The foal grew quickly into a very healthy colt and the mother was very proud. The groom was also proud that he could help Mother Nature along in that unfortunate situation.
As hard as everyone tried to teach the colt, named Princess, she still believed that she had two mothers.
As the colt grew larger and became large enough to support a rider, the groom had the job of training the young horse to be ridden. That was very easy because the horse, Princess, thought that she was giving her mother a ride.
Sometimes the groom thought that Princess behaved more like a dog because she would follow him around the yard, just like a puppy dog.
One day the groom was taken ill with a very bad cold that confined him to bed for a week. The horse, Princess, just wandered around the yard aimlessly and would not eat her hay or feed. Finally Princess noticed that someone left the gate open and she went into the cottage where the groom was bedridden. Princess went over to the bed and nudged the sleeping groom. The groom woke up with a surprise at first, and then a delighted smile. Princess was happy to see the groom. He was getting better and Princess was happy to see her mother again, or one of her mothers, that is.
