host in the Mirror

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lilliland Castle, where the Baron resides, had about fifty bedrooms for all of the guests and staff members. Among the guest bedrooms there was one located on the corner of the third floor with a small private balcony. The room had a superb view of both the lake and the Alpine Mountains. The view was really breathtaking but the room was declared off limits and was not used because the staff was convinced it was haunted.

In the room there was a gold-rimmed mirror above the dresser. When someone looked into the mirror he did not see an exact reflection of himself, but that of a ghostly figure instead. The ghost in the mirror had been heard making groaning sounds after midnight during a full moon. Sometimes the doors to the balcony would swing open and a rush of air invaded the room. The door had been equipped with heavy-duty bolts but the door still swayed and opened at will.

The Baron did not believe in ghosts and asked his chief advisor Professor Hamblin to investigate this ghostly phenomenon. The Professor ordered all of the furniture removed from the room. All the drapes and floor coverings were removed. The mirror was sent to a refinishing facility for complete refinishing and restoration. The room was cleaned and painted a new soft color. New furniture was brought in and new drapes and rugs were added. The original mirror was moved to another bedroom and a new mirror was installed. The Professor had the Baron’s complete approval of this decorating project. That should take care of the haunted bedroom curse and problem once and for all.

A few weeks later a brave guest offered to try out the redecorated room. He would move into the room and sleep for several nights. The first night went well, the second night was also fine as well as the third night. But the fourth night, which had a full moon, did not go so well. The balcony doors blew open and the mirror on the wall began to make groaning sounds and emitted a steam-like vapor. The brave guest left the room in a hurry and the Baron was told of the event.

“O.K.” said the Baron to the Professor. “Close up the room again. Instead of a bedroom it will now become a storage room for extra towels, pillows and blankets.”
