n Focus

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin was brought to Lilliland from Cambridge University in England to oversee the Baron and Lady Angela’s formal education.

The classroom was one of the large rooms in Lilliland Castle adjoining the library. One of the questions that the Baron would bring up several times year after year, was “How well am I doing with the studies?”

Professor Hamblin would reply that if he kept things in focus, it would help him to determine that he was on the right trail in his studies. “Keep things in focus. That means, ask yourself three questions. First, ‘Am I the person I think I am?’ Second, ‘Am I the person other people think I am?’ and third, ‘Who is the person I really am?’

“Sometimes we can fool others,” said Professor Hamblin, “and sometimes we can fool ourselves, but sooner or later reality steps in.

“The closer the three images are the more focused we are and the better adjusted we are in meeting the goals that we wish to achieve.”

In the case of Baron Von Lodge, he wanted to be a good leader for Lilliland and wanted the citizens to feel that he was a stabilizing influence, despite the fact that world was ever changing. Different types of governments were coming into power, or leaving by being violently overthrown. Lilliland had to be stable, like a rock. The Baron wanted to be that type of leader.

Some royal families wanted everything for themselves and gave as little as possible to their citizens. The people could take just so much of that until they rose up and overthrew the government.

That was not the direction that Lilliland was to go under the leadership of the Baron. The Baron wanted a strong solid middle class that had opportunities in business, government, and the professions.
