aron's Secret Dream
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
The Baron was very reluctant to tell anyone his dream about a newly built patio-dining porch, which was to be added to a favorite Lilliland restaurant. The restaurant was on the shores of the large Castle Lake. The new porch would add extra dining tables for 100 guests who would actually be dining over the lake. The new dining porch would be built upon strong pilings secured to deeply imbedded poles in the solid rock below.
Since the new dining area would be slightly over the lake, it required the Baron’s permission.
The Baron’s secret dream was that the new dining porch would cause the restaurant to be slanted with unbalanced weight and slide into the lake. The Baron did not want to tell anyone about the dream for fear people would think the Baron’s opinion were the result of dreams. The Baron decided to say nothing about the dream but did insist that the engineers that declared the sight where the support poles would go, was rock solid. The Baron was told that the foundation was solid according to the test results.
It turned out that the solid rock foundation was solid only part of the year, but other times the rocks were more like clay.
Unfortunately, soon after the new dining area was opened, there was a loud crash and the restaurant slid into the lake, new porch and all.
No one was in the restaurant at the time, but it was just after a severe storm and the restaurant had closed for the night.
It took some time, but a new restaurant was finally rebuilt by the side of the lake, but not over the lake. Everything turned out fine.
Later, the Baron told his dream to his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, to ask him for his opinion.
The Professor said that he may have heard stories of other buildings in the history of Lilliland that were built too close to the water’s edge. The recollection came in dream form but he could not recall an exact situation like this happening before.
The engineering reports about the solid bedrock were flawed and that was that. The Baron’s dream was still a secret.
