aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Baron's schedule was commonly known and each August the Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, would go on a holiday for two weeks to Scotland to visit Lady Angela's cousins, Lord and Lady MacPeterson.
While the Baron was away a strange couple who dressed and looked like the Baron and Lady Angela, sneaked into Lilliland Castle and pretended to be the real Baron and Lady Angela. The castle staff was completely fooled and thought that the real royal couple cut their visit to Scotland very short to be alone in the castle.
The imposter sent word to the staff that they wanted to be alone to plan their royal wedding. In the meantime, the kitchen staff should bake lots and lots of scones and serve them with a cup of tea at 4 p.m. in the Lilliland Park free of charge to all of the citizens of Lilliland who were there. The staff did just that at 4 p.m. in the park and everyone was very happy. The imposter Baron said that the kitchen staff should serve tea and scones in the park everyday until further notice. Everyone in Lilliland looked forward to the afternoon tea in the park. Some visitors to Lilliland said that the afternoon tea in the park was just like being back home in England.
The day before the real Baron returned, the imposter silently left Lilliland Castle. Nothing from the castle was missing and everything was just as the Baron left it. When the Baron returned the staff was confused since they thought that he never really left. The Baron never found out the true identity of the imposter, but he continued the afternoon tea in the park since it was a very good idea.
