other Nature’s Revenge

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Many people were worried that Lilliland, like neighboring Switzerland, was a neutral country. During this time of great strife, Lilliland would not take sides but would remain neutral.

But the Baron often wondered if a country wanted to attack and take over Lilliland, what would we do?

The border patrol and the Lilliland Castle security force were not an army.

Professor Hamblin had a secret plan in the event of an enemy attack. The plan was known to only the most trusted people in Lilliland. A group of reservists would be called into action. They would appear to be a military force. But, when the enemy attacked, they would, as planned, concede ground. Yard after yard, they would appear to be caving in. The organized retreat would be into a section of a mountain that is like a canyon. The invading troops would follow the Lilliland resistance into the canyon and then would disappear into a secret tunnel that the invaders could not see or find.

At that precise moment, a special horn would sound loudly and the snow would come thundering down on top of the invaders covering them completely. The poor souls would not be seen again until the spring thaw.

It was Mother Nature’s Revenge. Not a shot had to be fired by the Lilliland reserves, only the appearance of action and resistance. Lilliland was a neutral country and wanted to keep it that way. If Mother Nature and the mountain snow could help Lilliland, all the better.

The Baron does not like the loss of lives in any conflict, but the diplomatic rules of neutrality must be respected in a civilized world.

Thank goodness this plan never had to be put to use.
