issing Mountain

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron would occasionally receive reports of missing skiers and hikers in the Alpine Mountains of Lilliland. The ski patrol and mountain rangers kept a close eye on vacationers. The hikers would file a plan of their activities with the rangers before they reached the mountain, and the time of their return. When they returned, they reported to the rangers that they had returned.

The rangers wanted to be sure that everyone had returned and that everyone was healthy. Despite their diligence, sometimes people would stray away from their hiking party and the rangers would be called in for assistance. They would search the areas of the mountain where the hikers were last seen.

Sometimes romantic couples would wander off the path in search of a quiet spot to camp by themselves. But sometimes they would get too far away from the group and not be able to find their way back.

Sometimes the hikers and campers got really lost. The rangers could not find them for some time. Eventually they would wander onto a safe trail where they were finally found.

The Baron discussed this with his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin. The Professor wondered if the mountain maps were really as complete as they should be. They decided that more safety direction markers should be added to the mountain trails to ensure that hikers do not get lost.

While plans were being made and mountain safety markers were being installed, there was a surprise for everyone. There were three mountain peaks in a row, but only two were shown on the map. Somehow one of the mountains was not on the map. The mountain was actually missing from the official map.

This had been a horrible miscalculation because it meant that many hikers could have easily been lost if they wandered onto the missing mountain. The search teams following the map would not know to look in the area of the third mountain and could accidentally miss some lost hikers.

The matter was quickly solved with the drawing of new maps, and with the addition of safety direction signs the hikers were always able to find their way back to the mountain ranger station.

The Baron and the Professor were very pleased that the lost mountain had been found and would not be a problem again.
