aris, Lilliland and Romance

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Since Lilliland had more of a reputation as a sporting and recreation center, the Baron wanted to develop Lilliland as the ideal place for newlyweds to visit on their honeymoon. In other words, the Baron wanted to give it a more romantic image. He discussed this image factor with his fiancée Lady Angela of Alpine Castle.

Both the Baron and Lady Angela came to the same conclusion. Paris was the city of romance so perhaps some lessons could be learned from visiting the city of love. They decided to send their chief advisor Professor Hamblin to Paris to make observations that he could bring back to Lilliland.

Upon his return to Lilliland, Professor Hamblin made his report to the Baron and Lady Angela together. The Professor spent most of his time in Paris at the library and in the museums. He saw the famous works of art and statuary, but when it came to romance, the Professor didn’t have any suggestions to make that could apply to Lilliland.

The Baron thanked the Professor for his report and the next step was to go to Paris himself with Lady Angela to see what they could find out together. He would not go as a baron but as a typical tourist. They would stay in a modest hotel and dine at regular restaurants. No one would know that they both represented royal families.

After five days in Paris, both the Baron and Lady Angela discussed the basic reason for the visit. The Parisians seemed to have a highly developed attitude toward life. They seemed to love life and see love in each other’s eyes. They also seemed to elevate everyday activities of daily life into a glorious art form.

When the Baron and Lady Angela returned to Lilliland they spoke with Professor Hamblin about their findings. The Baron mentioned that Parisians seemed to have a love of everyday life and an attitude that love springs eternal.

The question was weather the Baron wanted to try to develop a new attitude toward love and romance in Lilliland. He thought for a while, and then said that perhaps everyone could learn one small thing in Paris to bring back into the everyday lives of the people of Lilliland.
