ingerbread House

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Hans Goodheart was the favorite baker in Lilliland. He was probably so popular because every December he would bake a very large gingerbread house for all the children of Lilliland.

Each year as the population of Lilliland grew there were more and more children. Therefore, the gingerbread house had to be made larger and larger so that all of the children would receive their piece of the cake.

The gingerbread house finally got so big that Hans had to meet with the Baron to say that this was the largest gingerbread house he could bake in his small bakery. He told the Baron that this was probably going to be the last year he could bake the cake. He knew that this would disappoint the children but what else could he do?

The Baron understood the problem and decided to consult with Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, and Lady Angela of Alpine Castle. They thought about the problem for some time but could not come up with any solution. If they could not come up with any solution, then this was going to be the last year that the gingerbread house would be baked and served to the children of Lilliland.

A cousin of Lady Angela's from France was visiting at Alpine Castle. Her cousin, Rene Fontainebleau asked permission to make a suggestion that might be of some help. The Baron said any suggestion would be most welcome at this time.

Cousin Rene suggested that instead of baking one gingerbread house that keeps getting bigger and bigger each year, bake enough miniature gingerbread houses so that each child could have his or her very own.

The idea was excellent and the results made everyone very happy. Now each December every child in Lilliland would have his or her own miniature gingerbread house.
