ow Lilliland Got Its Name

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the fiancée of the Baron, often entertained visitors to Lilliland at afternoon teas in her garden or on the patio overlooking the large and beautiful Lilliland Lake.

One of the questions that came up from her first-time visitors was how did Lilliland get its name?

Lady Angela said that it seemed that it was always Lilliland and she did not know exactly how the name came about.

She felt that it was not a very good explanation of how the name of Lilliland came about, so she asked the Baron. The Baron said that there should be some official statement as to the origin of the name so he asked Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, to research the name. There had been several explanations but he wanted to know for sure.

Historians in the Lilliland Library did an in-depth study all the way back in Lilliland's history to find out how the name came about.

The report that the professor received was that originally Lilliland was not given to a general as a reward for a great wartime victory, but it was given to a man who was more of a naturalist. The large Lilliland Lake was no good for anything but fishing, and the Alpine Mountains were no good for anything but sheep, and the donor thought that the land was not even much good for farming.

The naturalist, named Von Lodge, had a beautiful wife named Lillian, and one of the most beautiful flowers were the water lilies that grew in the many lakes.

Thus, the land of water lilies became Lilliland. Lillian Von Lodge liked the sound of the name.

The Lilliland Lake and the Alpine Mountains were and are one of the most beautiful natural spots in Europe.

So that is how Lilliland, the name, came to be.
