eeping Lilliland Marriages Happy

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

Generations of the Royal Family had always maintained that a healthy family was extremely important for the survival of the monarchy. Lilliland would not have survived for 1000 years if it were otherwise.

There was much talk in Lilliland that many contemporary marriages were filled with storm and strife. Both men and women had the vote and could own property, unlike many other countries. There was greater equality in a marriage.

Most of Lilliland's marriages had been arranged by the parents. The parents, by tradition, had known the future in-laws for many years. The parents tried to choose a suitable husband for their daughter with whom she had many things in common. Among them, education, religion, views on raising children, having pets, preferred family activities, food choices, and other interests.

They believed that the more things the couple had in common the more they would want to stay together. One interesting thing for a happy marriage was if they both had a common interest in plants and animals. Family pets played an important role in family life in Lilliland.

Both Lady Angela and Baron Von Lodge had their future marriage arranged by their parents. They both loved each other and loved to go horseback riding, traveling, skiing, and their roles as leaders of Lilliland and the desire to keep their country as a wonderful place to be married and live happily ever after.
