n Unseasonably Warm Winter
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
Lilliland was very popular for all the skiing enthusiasts in Europe. The Alpine Mountains downhill ski trails were well known among all the ski clubs.
This season the winter weather was unusually warm and there was not enough snow for the skiers.
The Baron was hoping for a few good days of snow but the warm weather continued day after day. The tourism officials were concerned about the poor season changing the tourists' plans and they would go elsewhere for winter sports.
The Baron consulted with Professor Hamblin, his chief advisor, and asked him what he thought should be done to save the winter tourist season.
The Professor suggested that other activities be promoted in place of skiing. All the neighboring countries had marching bands. It was decided bands from all of the countries in the area would be invited to an Alpine Mountains Marching Band Festival. Many bands came from villages in Switzerland, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Italy, England, Poland and other countries. Everyone loved the marching bands and the wonderful uplifting music they played. The music seemed to fit in with the spirit of the Alpine Mountains and all the tourists seemed to enjoy themselves.
The wonderful music of the marching bands was just what the winter season needed to make everyone happy.
