he Calling
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, was talking with the Baron about a concept known as “the calling.” He said, “For example, let’s take two teachers teaching at the same school and the same classes. Both teachers had the same college education to prepare for their profession. One teacher looked upon teaching as a fine job, which was quite accurate. The other teacher also looked upon the job as a fine position, but added that he felt that he had a special calling to the position. The calling is that feeling that comes with an extra dedication to the profession.
“In other words, the second teacher had a feeling that teaching was meant to be his life’s work.
“Ministers are known for having a special calling to teach the word of God. This calling is not something that is learned or acquired; it is just there. Some people are blessed with it; others are not so fortunate.
“Leaders of great countries often feel that they were born to be king or baron; others just pretend that it exists for them, if anyone asks.
“In the case of Baron Von Ledge of Lilliland, he was both born for the position and also had the calling.”
The reason that the Professor said that was because of the fine way that his policies treated the average Lilliland citizen.
“Some rulers would spend all their time, money and effort in building a bigger and better castle than his peers in a neighboring country just to make the right impression on other rulers.
“One way is to look at the walkways inside and outside the castle area. If in the castle the walkways are paved in fancy stone and the walkways outside the castle in the city are paved with dirt, that pretty well tells the story about how the leader thinks of the common citizens in his country.”
The Professor concluded that the walkways at Lilliland Castle are paved just like the walkways are paved in the center of Lilliland. “And it is not just walkways, but the way the Baron cares for the citizens of Lilliland in general.”
The Baron truly had the calling.
