orth Brothers

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, was sharing a story about three brothers, Bill, Bob and Byron Worth, he knew while living in England. Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, was also present.

It seemed that most of the time the three brothers worked their problems out together, but sometimes Bill would ask Bob to do something, then realizing that he would be unavailable, would ask Byron to substitute. While Byron usually agreed, when the time came to complete the task for Bill, Byron did not come through. When asked about the slip up, Byron usually said that he forgot or acted as though the task was of no importance.

Once, while Bob was ill and had to stay in his room to recuperate, Bill would usually take his meals to him. But when Bill had to be at work or away on business, Byron was asked to help. Byron remembered a few times but then he kept forgetting to take Bob his meals.

Bill and Bob finally got together to figure what to do to get Byron to hold up his part in the family. Their parents were always there but gave up on Byron many years ago when he forgot to bring in the dog during a blizzard and everything was frozen. Bob remembered about the dog well after midnight but rescued him in time from being frozen to death.

Bob and Bill talked about Byron with brotherly love but said his lack of responsibility and carelessness in not completing tasks was raising havoc with the entire family.

Bob and Bill came to no understanding as to what to do about Byron, if anything. The answer was to do nothing and let nature take its course. Maybe Byron would come to his senses about his responsibilities, or maybe not. Only time would tell.

Professor Hamblin wished that he had reached the conclusion of the story on a happier note but the story just ended with nothing really happening. Byron’s trustworthiness as a family member unfortunately diminished with time.

Fortunately, history would record that brother Byron would eventually become more sincere and responsible as a family member.
