ueling, Young Visiting Royals
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
It was very common that royal family member would visit Lilliland. They usually stayed at the Lilliland Hotel. Two such young members of royal breeding were visiting Lilliland to engage in some sailing. They both met an attractive young lady and began to fight over her to gain her attention. She appeared to be uninterested in either young man but they persisted.
Things got way out of control and one young man challenged the other to a duel at sunrise in the Lilliland Park. It would be a duel with actual very sharp swords. This was serious business and could get very bloody.
Fortunately, word got out about the duel and the police were notified. Since both of the families had diplomatic immunity, it could become a touchy event among diplomatic circles unless the matter was resolved properly.
It was the morning of the duel and just before the swords were about to clash, the police stepped and halted everything. First they took the swords away so that no one could get hurt and they took the two men into custody.
The two men were taken before a judge and sentenced to leave Lilliland immediately. The swords, now in police possession, would be returned to the parents in a few weeks with a severe note of reprimand. The men were not to return to Lilliland unless accompanied by a responsible person for the next ten years.
Some people thought that swordplay was very gallant but it really was very stupid. People could be seriously hurt for no reason at all. It was not a sport or deed of honor – it was just stupid.
If the two men wanted to settle an argument, why not have them run a 100-yard-dash. Then whoever won the race also won the argument.
When the girl, who the two men were about to duel over, found out about the incident in the park, she shunned them. She said, “What a couple of spoiled brats.”
