oothsayers Predict the End of Lilliland Again

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s advisor, informed him that the soothsayers were at it again. There were a few men dressed in robes carrying signs predicting doomsday for Lilliland. This time, unlike previous times, they were predicting that Lilliland would be completely covered when the top of one of the Alpine Mountain peaks broke loose and avalanched into Lilliland Lake. The lake would flood all of Lilliland and the country would cease to exist. This time they were predicting an exact date, which was during the next full moon, and the event would start at midnight.

The Professor was showing some concern because there were some people who might believe this pack of lies. The ski patrol watched any mountain peak changes and ignited controlled avalanches when the buildup on the peaks became excessive. But, the soothsayers failed to mention the precautions that were always taken.

The Baron asked the Professor to find out why these men were doing the things they were always doing. What did they have to gain by scaring people away?

The Professor was able to find and speak with a former member of the soothsayer gang. He said that they were trying to scare people into vacating their land in Lilliland so that another group could move in and take over the land and eventually the royal family. Their weapon was not guns or war, but fear and scaring people with the coming of a great natural disaster.

The soothsayers were clever this time because the next full moon was when the Baron would be on his annual vacation. But the soothsayers would twist that information to say that even the Baron and Lady Angela were packing up to leave Lilliland.

When the Baron heard this scheme, he immediately postponed his vacation and stood steadfast at Lilliland Castle for all the people to see. He was not leaving Lilliland until this crisis was over and the soothsayers were found to be deceitful people with selfish motives against the people of Lilliland.

The crisis date came and nothing happened. Lilliland was as safe and beautiful as before.
