aron's Banana Bread

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, were discussing going south to Italy for a holiday. The Baron was looking forward to one of his favorite breakfast treats and that was freshly made banana bread with his morning coffee.

Unfortunately, there were no bananas in Lilliland or nearby Switzerland. The nearest source of bananas was from the Port of Marseilles. If the bananas were purchased at the port and sent by train to Lilliland, by the time they arrived, the bananas would have turned too brown to be used in truly fresh banana bread. The fresh bananas were just too far away from Lilliland.

The Baron found a new bakery half way between Marseilles and Lilliland and asked them to bake the bread while the bananas were still yellow and not turning brown.

The new bakery tried it and when the bread was done, it was shipped directly to the Baron in Lilliland.

Unfortunately, a slight delay hampered the freshness and the bread was slightly stale.

The banana bread freshness problem did not seem to have any solution for the moment.

Perhaps, the Baron thought, that his love of the bread would have to be set-aside for something else.

Lady Angela thought about this situation and said that she might have come up with a solution. She needed to see if her idea would work, she told the Baron.

The Baron was wondering what solution she might come up with and knew that Lady Angela was very good at solving problems, maybe even this banana bread problem.

Finally, Lady Angela came to the Baron and said that she had been talking with her baker and her gardener. The gardener said that the Alpine Castle greenhouse could raise tropical flowers and therefore, it could also raise bananas. She would have the gardener plant some banana trees in her greenhouse and grow the bananas for the Baron’s banana bread.

It would take about six months to see if the tree would produce any bananas, but if successful, it would produce bananas year after year.

After a patient wait, the bananas began to appear on the tree and were picked at the right time. The baker then made the fresh banana bread for the Baron. This made the Baron very happy and Lady Angela very proud.
